Feeling Low? Here’s How to Lift Yourself Up

Everyone has those stretches where confidence dips a little. Maybe you had a rough week, maybe you’re stuck comparing yourself to others, or maybe you just don’t feel like yourself. The good news is self esteem isn’t fixed. You can give it a boost with a few small shifts that help you see yourself in a more positive light. Here are five ways that actually make a difference.
Look after your body
How you feel physically plays a big role in how you see yourself. Eating decent food, moving around more, and getting proper rest all add up. Even simple changes like drinking more water or taking a walk can change your energy. For some people, confidence also comes from tackling things they’ve wanted to change for a long time, like breast reduction surgery. Whether it’s a big decision or small daily habits, doing something that makes you feel comfortable in your own skin can go a long way.

Cut down on comparisons
It’s easy to fall into the trap of scrolling through social feeds and feeling like everyone else has it figured out. The problem is you’re looking at a highlight reel, not the full picture. Instead of comparing yourself to strangers online, try comparing yourself to your past self. Think about how far you’ve come in the last year or two. That shift helps you notice your own progress instead of chasing someone else’s.

Work on the way you talk to yourself
The inner critic can be loud, and if you let it run wild, it eats away at your confidence. Start paying attention to the words you use on yourself. If you wouldn’t say those things to a friend, then why say them to you? Try replacing harsh thoughts with something more balanced and encouraging. With practice, that becomes second nature, and you’ll see yourself in a much kinder light.

Do more of what makes you feel capable
Confidence builds when you put yourself in situations where you know you can do well. That might mean cooking your favourite meal, finishing a workout, fixing something in the house, or even just being there for a friend. It could even mean taking yourself clothes shopping - by yourself! Every time you remind yourself of what you can do, you give your confidence another layer of strength.

Spend time with the right people

Who you surround yourself with makes a huge difference. Supportive friends and family who celebrate your wins and cheer you on will lift you up more than you realise. On the other hand, spending too much time with people who criticise or bring you down is draining. Choosing to invest your time in people who bring out the best in you is one of the easiest ways to feel better about yourself.

Confidence doesn’t happen overnight, but it also doesn’t have to be complicated. These small steps add up and remind you of your worth in everyday life. Start with one and keep building from there.
