However, setting yourself some clear goals and creating a plan to achieve them can help you to eventually get to where you want to be. It doesn’t matter what level you’re at right now; follow the steps in this guide and you could land your dream job sooner than you think. Assess What A Dream Job Really Means To You
You might have a good idea of what your dream job entails already, but have you really thought about it fully? Something might sound like a dream to you but unless you’ve done some thorough research, you won’t know for sure. Every single job out there has some downsides. Have you researched the downsides of your dream job to make sure you can handle them? For example, it could be that you’re going to be on your feet for 12 hours a day, or that you’ll have to work weekends or that you will have to be away from your family for weeks at a time. There are all kinds of things you’ll need to consider before you can be sure something is your dream job. To help you further, try writing a list of jobs that appeal to you. Take into account your talents and skills, and make sure you’ll be using these in your job. Know what motivates you too, as you’ll need to be focused on the motivation when the going inevitably gets tough. When you’ve got a list of jobs that you could potentially love, you can then begin to explore how you’ll get the qualifications and skills you need to land a job and thrive in the role. Research, Research, And More Research It’s not the most glamorous part of landing your dream job, but it’s very important. Do your research so you know what qualifications are preferred like what education you will need, how much experience you need to get your ideal role, etc. Using your research, you can then create a plan. There are usually multiple routes into any job, and they can take anywhere from a few months to several years depending on the job requirements and how much time you have to dedicate to studying. Let's say you’re considering becoming a lawyer, you could intern at a law firm, go to coffee with your family friend who is a lawyer, or talk to law students about what it takes to be successful in law school. Those are all ways to get to know a little more about the practical realities about how to become a lawyer. Or consider the various accounting jobs, marketings jobs or even agriculture jobs out there. There are resources that can he help with placements across industries to get you going. For almost any "dream job"f you can volunteer to get some experience that would look amazing on your resume plus give you insight into how the job you think you want really works. I will tell you that my law firm internships were some of the most valuable experience I ever had prior to becoming a lawyer and I highly recommend finding a similar opportunity in your dream job sector. Working for free always looks good on your CV, and it’ll show that this is something you really want to do when the hiring partners come looking for you! Get Into The Right Mindset Getting your mindset right is half of the battle when you want to land your dream job. You have to do the work, sure, but your head needs to be in the right place. You cannot think that your dream job will mean that it will not seem like work - there will be days when it will be tough even when you are in a job you have always wanted to do. But, uou need to believe that you are capable of achieving what you want to achieve, and focus on the reasons you went with your dream job in the first place (I like to say always focus on your purpose whether its helping others, helping the environment, providing for family, etc.) That kind of mindset focus can get you over the tough days and focused on the things that matter to your long term success. Start writing your list, do your research, create a plan, and get into the right mindset - your dream job shouldn’t be too far out of reach at this point! What are some of your best practices for helping others find their dream job?
