Are you ready to take that next step and change your career? So many people are unhappy with their jobs that it’s almost become the norm. Perhaps you’re in the same boat. You believe that work isn’t supposed to be enjoyable because… well, it’s work. But there’s a difference between something being a challenge and something simply being unsatisfying. Your career should inspire and motivate you to push yourself. How else are you going to progress up the ladder and get those promotions? Even when your job role is mentally or physically taxing, it should be rewarding in some sense. You should care about the industry in which you’re based, at the very least. The subject matter should inspire you. And if you’re not getting that from your current career then this might be a sign that it’s time for you to change to a career that does satisfy your intellectual and personal needs. Here are some pointers that might help you to be brave enough to change career. Sort out your finances.
If you’re going to strive for a new career then you might not always be able to jump from one to another. You might have to study for a new subject area or have to intern before you can land a full-time paying job, for example. It all depends on your personal situation and the job for which you’re striving, but you should certainly aim to sort out your finances before you start hunting for that new career opportunity. If your financial situation is tricky and you still owe money to lenders then you should sort that out first. You might want to look into debt consolidation loans to help you pay off your debt in more manageable payments. It’s so important that you’re financially stable before you chase an entirely new career. You might have a stable job at the moment but entering an entirely new industry might mean re-training is needed or that you’ll need to take a low-paying entry-level role, at the very least. It’s just important that your house is in order first. Get your CV in order. If you want a chance of getting that dream career in a different role then you need to get your CV in order. Your previous experience, even if it’s in an unrelated role, can often be twisted to shine favorably on your ability to take on new challenges. Of course, you might need some specific industry experience or expertise if you’re trying to enter a brand new industry. Getting new qualifications can help but there are things you can do even if you’re not qualified for a certain job. Doing your research into the company and making contacts with the right people are two examples of ways in which an unqualified person stands a chance of getting that perfect job role. It’s all about putting in the work to get a glistening resume on the desk of your potential employer. For more tips on this, check out our detailed blog post with 4 Tips to Land Your Dream Job - Even if You are Not Qualified For It. Have some confidence. At the end of the day, getting anywhere in life is about confidence. Employers like candidates with a little charisma. If you’re confident then you’re already putting yourself at an advantage over candidates applying for the same role as you. You’re the only obstacle in your way of changing your career to something better. Being brave enough to change your career to something better just requires you to tell yourself that you’re good enough for that role you want. And if you don’t feel confident yet then fake it until you make it. You know I recently made a big announcement that I was planning to spend more of my time on my blog. I will tell you that it did not start off as anything that I could ever think would be a business. Having confidence to try was certainly the biggest part of my journey through the world of blogging and social media. I literally did not have a Facebook Page until the middle of 2017. My early posts we low quality and I really was not sure what my "voice" would be about. I shared what I learned in my first year of blogging and since then I have continued to grow and learn by starting a Youtube Channel and collaborating with new bloggers, media and brands. Most of what I am doing I have not even closely figured out but just knowing that I can learn and try was enough to make me go for it. What are your tips to taking this next step?

I think so many people who are unhappy in their current job don't realise they are living with so much courage every day by what it takes to psych themselves up to face another day/week/month and to counteract the negativity. That's true courage served daily, in my books. It's just a matter of channeling that type of courage towards actions of change which are SO incredibly energising and rewarding. If your life doesn't yet allow a full transition to your dream career, do all you can to immerse yourself among like-minded souls, inspiring reading and genuine connections. Even that seemingly small step will give so much fuel to your drive and it will start opening your world to what it will take for the full transition. Always be grateful for where you've been because it's likely that's what will lead you to whatever is next. More opportunities come from what you're doing now than what you think you'll do in the future (which is where MEL's points about confidence, inner glow, good planning and using courage really come to light). When you back yourself the Universe will back you, too. Go for it!
