Unless you are incredibly lucky, your dream job is not going to fall out of the sky and land in your lap. It takes a real commitment to land your dream job, whether that is in law, education, healthcare or tech support jobs. In order to transform your life and get what you want from your career, you may need to make a few changes that we suggest in this article. Make sure that you look the part
First impressions count. To be in with a chance of landing your dream job, you need to make sure that you look the part. In many office environments, dress codes are relaxing but judgements will still be made about how you are dressed, even if it is subconsciously. Not only will other people base their initial judgements on the way you are dressed, but you may also find that you do the same to yourself. If you are in pajamas, you probably do not feel quite as motivated or powerful as you do when you are in a power suit. Dress for the job you want and imagine yourself in that role. Plus we have a whole boutique dedicated to bosses just like you and you can easily shop the most current work fashion trends here. Improve your mindset A big part - possibly one of the biggest parts - of landing your dream job and your success story is your own mindset. For lots of people, it is nothing more than a self-limiting mindset and beliefs that hold them back. Improving and elevating your mindset is key to going far in your career. Stop looking at your dream job as a dream and begin to look at it as a goal that you can - and will - reach. Write a list of the steps that you need to take to achieve that goal and start taking those steps. Once you have taken a few of the steps, you will have more belief in yourself that you can do it. Writing them down also helps you break down goals into bite-sized attainable tasks. Widen your skillset With often hundreds of people going for the same job, you have to have something special to stand out among the rest. Having an expansive skillset is one way to get yourself noticed above other candidates. Employers these days want to see that potential employees are up to date in their knowledge and that they can improve their skillset without someone holding their hand. Research your dream job industry and find out the latest news and innovations. Learn everything that you can about those topics. Follow industry leaders on LinkedIn and reach out to make connections. If you don’t understand something, ask for help. Being able to do this is a sign of strength and will be seen positively by most managers. Assess your lifestyle You have to be realistic here and ensure that your lifestyle aligns with your dream job. If it doesn’t, something has to change. If you are the sort of person who likes to sleep in and have a leisurely start to the day but the job you want requires you to be in the office bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, you need to get yourself into a better routine. Now go get 'em!
