As professional women, time is precious. We cannot spend hours at the dermatologist or spa during the day. To combat the stresses of our daily lives, a little "me time" is needed. I am a big fan of doing things that will have a positive impact on my health and appearance with as little down time as possible so these are my top 9 health and beauty treatments all professional women should be getting. Plus we have a great discount code you will not want to miss inside!
1. Manicure and Pedicure
It’s a classic, it’s simple, but it’s necessary. Keeping your nails healthy shows you look after yourself; you are clean and well presented. It doesn’t have to be vibrant colours, a classic french mani, classic red or even clear polish looks really smart and very professional. When the sun is coming out, and you want to put your peep toes at the office, it’s good to have your toes ready to be seen. Taking care of your nails is not just for aesthetics. Your nails protect your fingers and toes, and if you don’t look after them, the tissue underneath them vulnerable to infection. Plus mani and pedi can usually be done on the fly - i.e. you don't need an appointment to get them done. If you want to check out a Hiatus Spa near you - you can use code MELHIATUS20 for a discount for any of their services including mani-pedis. 2. Dermaplaning A favorite with celebrities, dermaplaning is known for scraping dead skin off the face as well as eliminating peach fuzz that can cake up when you’re wearing makeup and then is sometimes magnified by harsh lighting. Dermaplaning gets rid of these so that you’re left with a smooth, flawless looking complexion. In the end, you’re left with a sleek looking and feeling soft, a brighter skin tone, improved hyperpigmentation and appearance of mild scars, wrinkles and fine lines. 3. Permanent Makeup How good would it be to wake up in the morning and have your eyebrows, lip liner, eyeliner and lipstick already on? Not only would you wake up looking fabulous every day but imagine the time it would save you? Getting permanent makeup tattooed on is now a popular procedure to have, so much so that it’s not just the obvious everyday makeup that people are asking for, but now you can even have scar reduction, and freckles added. 4. Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting If you’ve got your eyeliner and lippy already on then, you may as well have your eyebrows and eyelashes tinted too. This treatment has been around for a while, but it’s a staple item that again saves time but helps to keep you looking fresh when you’re not feeling it. 5. Massage A massage is also a must. If you have a stressful job, you will be tense, and just like the other treatments, it allows you some time out, but this one also has the added benefit of actually relieving stress, getting those knots out of your back, relaxing your muscles and making you feel renewed and energized. Doctors even recognize massages as being a form of medicine as they can help you with things like anxiety, digestive disorders, headaches, insomnia related to stress and sports injuries. You can often you use health savings account to get monthly massages - really! Just ask your chiropractor or general practitioner. 6. Facial Another relaxing treatment, which is always good for you but a facial is also said to activate your sympathetic nervous system which reduces your anxiety levels and uplifts your mood, according to a study published in the journal Biomedical Research. Not only does a facial keep your skin glowing, but it is also similar to exercise for your face. Your face has a load of pressure points connected to other parts of your body, so a facial is also good for the rest of your body too - not just your face. 7. Visit A Hair Salon Whether it’s to get your roots done or just a trim, visiting the hairdresser regularly is a must. It’s essential to keep on top of your hair’s health because even if you think it’s okay and you think you can skip a trip to the salon, the next time you’ll go they’ll probably tell you that you need to have a load chopped off that you don’t want. Also, going to the salon and getting professionals to wash it and put a treatment in every so often is key to keeping your hair healthy too. 8. Laser Hair Removal If you you do anything on this list do this!! I got this done over a decade ago and it was the most time saving treatments I could ever imagine. If you start going for this treatment now, then eventually you won’t have to go anymore. Getting laser hair removal means you can say goodbye to shaving, tweezing, waxing and hair removal creams, and you can remove unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini line and you should be able to enjoy permanent hair loss after an average of three to seven sessions. 9. Cupping Finally, if you’re in need of an energy boost on a regular basis, then cupping is the way to way. It is the ancient Chinese practice famous for the circular shapes left behind on the backs of celebs (we’ve all seen them in their holiday paps). Cupping is known for the ability to help with poor circulation to increasing energy and relaxation as well as helping detoxification around the body. The cups create suction, and this draws blood up to the surface, which enables it to then flow around the body better to wherever it’s needed if areas need to heal. If you do decide to try it, remember that the redder the marks afterwards, the more toxins are in your body, while pale cup marks indicate healthy, oxygen-rich blood.
