Do you love your job? I love mine and I hope this article helps make yours a little better! Whether you’re a work to live, or live to work kind of person, there are small changes you can make on a day-to-day basis that will brighten your work days and give you a little something to look forward to during office hours. Whether you’re in the office, or working from home, we’ve got some workable tips for you to make small improvements to your work life. 1. Bribe yourself.
It’s pretty basic, but it works. Setting your own targets and promising yourself rewards when you achieve them can be a great way to stay motivated – especially if you work by yourself at the moment and aren’t surrounded by team members to help you stay positive. Try using a rewards jar as a method of keeping yourself on track, or you can stick to fail-safe options like brownies or a post 5pm cocktail. 2. Mindfulness As a word, mindfulness is starting to lose all meaning through overuse, but there’s no denying that the actual practice of taking some time to refocus, concentrate on your breathing and centre yourself on a daily basis can have a massive positive effect. Try using an app like Headspace to get you started if you’re new to meditation. 3. Study You might want to do something super serious, like certified tax preparer courses, or look into learning a language, but having a focus outside work can make what you do during the day all seem worthwhile. Especially if your focus is on something that will make you more employable in the long run, then having an ultimate goal to set your sights on will make what you’re doing now feel worth it. 4. Pre-work exercise This might feel like the last thing you want to do, especially as the days get shorter and the mornings are darker. But studies have shown that exercising before work can help boost your concentration and lower your stress levels. There are thousands of home workout apps so, if you want to get in a quick 30 minutes of cardio then shower at home there’s plenty of choice. 5. Get outside Natural daylight is good for us in so many ways – it boosts vitamin D, resets our bodies natural clocks, and gives an endorphin boost. Try stepping away from the screen over your lunch break and taking a stroll for half an hour. 6. Personal admin It can be so frustrating when the arrangements and life admin we have to do all needs to be squeezed into office hours. Rather than trying to do a thousand tasks alongside your job and splitting your focus, set aside twenty minutes a couple of times a week during the day to just focus on tasks you need to do for yourself. It might be sorting out a bill or replying to an email. Get it done and say goodbye to that low-level stress!
